Need Over Greed attempts to dismantle the monopolisation and hoarding of vacant houses in order to meet housing needs amidst a housing crisis. In a time where an economy of “what’s yours is yours and what’s mine is mine” runs rampant who stops to question this notion? What happens when someone’s “mine” is left abandoned and disused for an extended period of time? How long can a house stand vacant till it’s deemed an unethical and immoral asset amidst a housing crisis? While the demand for housing is large, it is to be noted Australia does not strictly have a housing shortage problem, it has a shortage of affordable homes and a distorted distribution of housing problem. Australians need a radical cultural shift in the way housing is perceived and distributed, and desperately needs a system that recognises housing as a human right, not a wealth building asset.
